What is Zone 49?

Inspired by 4Chan; Zone 49 is a simple image-based bulletin board on top of an earth map. Users do not need to register an account before participating in the community. Paticipants can choose to host their own map or chatroom that dedicate for any desired topics. In order to start a chatroom, partipants do not need to register or login. However, to host a map, login is required (nothing stop participants from input fake email as no confirmation required). Be sure to familiarize yourself with the Rules before posting, and read the FAQ if you wish to learn more about how to use the site. Any contribution for Rules and/or new features can be posted directly on the map.

How do I access the maps?

In order to access the full site, you must first read and agree to the terms of the Consent. The consent automatically popup when new users access the home, maps or individual post views. Your response will be cookied so you'll only need to do this once every 30 days (providing you don't clear your cache/cookies afterwards).

What should I know before I post?

Users are encouraged to participate actively in our community, but only after they have familiarized themselves with the rules and this FAQ. Breaking the rules may result in post deletion, a temporary ban, or in some cases, permanent banishment. Understand the rules before you begin posting!

How do I post anonymously?

To post as "Anonymous", simply do not change in the default [Name] field when submitting content. Your unique id will then be calculated as somehashfunction(IP + SessionID + "a secret phase" + Post ID).

Can I register a username?

No user registration process is available for posting and commenting. However, to host your own map, you need to register for a map name. The registration form can be found in [My Map]

Must I post an image?

To start a new thread, you must upload an image. Zone 49 is primarily an image board after all! When replying to an already existing thread, no attachment is required.

Can I reply with an image?

Yes. To reply to a thread with an image of your own, click on the post No. or [Start a new threads button] and fill in the comment box, making sure to specify an image for attachment.

How do I reference/reply to a specific comment

To reply to a specific content, simply open the comment form by clicking in the comment button; then click on the desired Comment ID. The website will record your reference and you will see placeholder(s) text in your comment text box. Then input your reply in the text box (the reference placeholder(s) will disappeared but will be shown the published comment) and proceed as usual.

How do I report posts?

Reporting posts for review is extremely encouraged, as it helps us remove rule breaking and/or illegal content faster. To file a report, click the [Report] button to the top right of the map or to the top right of the detailed post view to expand the post menu. A confirmation dialogue will pop up and ask if the post you are reporting is a rule violation, spam, or if it contains illegal material. Fill out the captcha, and then click on the Submit button.

Important note: Submitting intentionally false reports may result in a ban. This policy is in place to discourage abuse of the system; it is not meant to dissuade users from submitting legitimate reports.

Why won't my thread bump?

All threads have a set bump limit (varies board to board). When this limit is reached, a thread will no longer "bump" to the top of the board, causing the thread to descend through the pages until it is bumped off of the last page and pruned. This method of post-limiting, while sometimes inconvenient, assures that content is kept fresh on the boards.

What does "work safe" mean?

"Work safe" is defined as "content that is safe for viewing in the average working environment." Boards that default to the Yotsuba B or Burichan (blue) theme are to be considered work safe. Posting content that is not suitable for this environment may result in a ban. The goal behind enforcing this rule is to keep the cleaner sections of the site accessible to those in restricted viewing situations.

My post disappeared! Where'd it go?

Threads expire and are pruned by Zone 49's software to maintain 1000 posts on the map and 100 archived posts. Depend on the number of post and comment per post; the time to live will automatically change to retain the more engaging content. Most times, expired or not engaging posts will be pruned automatically, however in some cases it may have been removed by a moderator or janitor. We ask that users refrain from reposting material that they believe to have been deleted by the moderators. Any idea to improve the mechanism can be posted directly on the map

Can I retrieve an old post/image?

May be. Contents that are voted to be archived can be see in archive tab. Every single archive vote will prolong the live of the content by 30 min. Every ip address can only vote 1 time. The post that expired will be automatically pruned. Please do not contact us requesting content that has been pruned, for it is impossible for us to assist you.

Can you help me contact a specific user?

No. We dont want to know anything about our users .

How can I find the source of an image?

Google Image Search and iqdb are great resources to identify the source of an image.
